Figuring out your style in your 40s takes on a whole new meaning. There’s a level of confidence that comes with this age, but still, sometimes it’s hard to know what's right.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself caring less about trends and am more interested in understanding what my style is all about.
If you’ve ever struggled with how to define your style as you navigate your 40s, this is for you.
Let me start by saying this: one of the best things about being in your 40s is that you’ve likely developed a sense of self that’s stronger than ever. You know what you like, and more importantly, what you don’t.
Here’s the thing—whatever feels right, is right.
If you feel good in what you’re wearing, that’s what matters. There’s power in trusting your instincts and wearing what makes you feel like you.
We know the style 'rules'—no white after labor day, skinny jeans are out, no socks with sandals (I still stick to that one!). But now, I realize that style rules are meant to be broken. If it makes you feel good, wear it. And let's forget about “appropriate.” I’ve learned that the best style is the one that feels authentic to you.
What I know for sure: jewelry can elevate your look ... instantly.
I’m not talking about layers of flashy, over-the-top pieces. It’s the thoughtful addition of meaningful jewelry that really makes an outfit stand out.
For me, I love layering necklaces—some have sentimental value, others that I’ve picked up along the way because they make me feel good. Whether it’s a simple gold chain, a bracelet with my kids initials, or my go-to pair of hoops, each piece of jewelry I wear tells a story. And I think that’s what makes it so powerful.
One of the best style tips I’ve embraced in my 40s is to invest in quality pieces. Forget fast fashion, except maybe for that truly trendy piece you just have to try! Spending a little more on meaningful pieces that can stand up to my busy lifestyle is what I'm drawn to. Sweaters that won't pill after one wash. Jeans that are flattering no matter what cut is in style. Jewelry that doesn't tarnish or turn my hands green. And since life is busy, the jewelry pieces that I can truly live in - wear, sleep, shower, repeat - are my new go-to.
So, how do you define style in your 40s? For me, it’s been a journey of self-discovery. I’ve learned that my style is mine to define. It doesn’t have to follow trends or meet anyone else’s expectations. It’s about finding what makes me feel good, whether that’s a pop of color, a meaningful necklace, or a cozy sweater that I love.
"I get compliments every time I’m wearing my necklaces and I'm always more than happy to share where I got them, because who doesn't love a company run by women who want to make other women look and feel beautiful everyday."
